Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, & Albert King at the Fillmore Auditorium poster

This poster was designed by Rick Griffin for the concerts by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, John Mayall And The Bluesbreakers and Albert King at the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland, San Francisco, February 1968.
The flying eyeball is a recurring icon throughout Griffin's artworks, becoming a signature element of his production.

Originally emblematic of 60s surfer culture, his art, poster design and lettering have come to embody the very essence of the word “psychedelic”. By combining sensationally lurid colours, densely patterned lettering and intricate designs with esoteric iconography, Griffin created a style of commercial art which is still employed as a kind of graphic shorthand for all things psychedelic in music, books and film today.
